The 90-Second Portal to Mastery

The 90 Seconds Between Awake and Asleep Is Where Your Rewire Your Reality

There’s a powerful creation window most people sleep straight through. Literally.

It happens twice a day, once as you’re falling asleep and once as you’re waking up. Your body starts to let go, your thoughts get loose and associative, and for a few seconds to a few minutes you’re neither fully conscious nor fully asleep. Psychologists call it the hypnagogic state ~ and this is where many of humanity’s greatest innovations were channeled.

It’s not just woo-woo either, there is neuroscience behind this phenomena which is exactly why Lucid Meditation® has developed techniques to access this state ~ “The 2nd Realm of Lucidity”

Most people have no idea that they have been creating the exact reality they don’t want during this window. If aware of this window at all, many treat the time as something to get through on the way to actual sleep or actual waking.

The good news is that accessing this powerful window of opportunity can be simple, and Lucid Meditation® has created a technique to help you do so.

Why This Window Matters

Your conscious mind is a good editor and a terrible architect. It’s great at deciding what to do next. It’s bad at rewiring the deeper patterns that decide what you “want” to do next, what you reach for under stress, what story you tell yourself when things go sideways. That work happens below the surface, in the subconscious, and the subconscious doesn’t take instructions from willpower. It takes instructions from repetition, emotion, and access.

The hypnagogic state is the highest-access window you get, twice a day, for free. Your critical filter is down. Your body is relaxed enough that the usual mental noise drops out. Whatever you plant here goes in deeper and faster than anything you’ll consciously repeat to yourself a hundred times over coffee.

The Hypnosis Connection

This is also, not coincidentally, where hypnosis works. Every induction is really just a guided walk into this exact state. Sustained states of hypnagogia can be trained for transformation in every area of your life ~ which is why I have spent years researching it and refining methods to access it intentionally.

The Neuroscience Behind Hypnagogia

What's Actually Happening in Your Brain?

This isn’t a metaphor, woo-woo mysticism, or guesswork. It’s a measurable state of brainwave activity you can access.

While you’re relaxed and awake, your brain runs mostly on alpha waves, roughly 8 to 12 cycles per second. As you drift into the hypnagogic state, that activity slows into theta, roughly 4 to 8 cycles per second, the same range your brain moves through during deep meditation and during a hypnotic induction.

Accessing Theta Brainwaves for Hypnagogia

Theta is also when your brain is most receptive to suggestion and most likely to produce the loose, associative imagery people describe as hypnagogic hallucinations, the flashes and half-formed scenes right before sleep.

You don’t need a hypnotist in the room to get there. You pass through it twice a day whether you capitalize on it or not.

*With Lucid Meditation® you can intentionally access the hypnagogic state/realm through specifically designed music that entrains your brainwaves. We also have cinematic hypnosis and meditation (Astral Adventures™) audios that help you to rapidly and precisely manifest in this window.

What Happens If You Ignore The Hypnagogic State

If you don’t use this window deliberately, it doesn’t sit empty. It is filled with whatever’s loudest that day, usually the thing you’re stressed about. It could be the conversation that went badly, the deadline you’re behind on, or the last thing you watched, read or listened to. You fall asleep marinating in it and wake up already behind often with an emotional and energetic hangover.

As you can imagine, this helps to explain why so many people walk up already feeling drained, stressed and discouraged. It also paints a clear picture of why manifestation doesn’t work for most people. It’s like sticking to a diet and working out all day only to binge on ice cream in the middle of the night (the worst time to do so!)

How to Use The Waymark Method

Lucid Meditation® has developed a method that is simple enough to learn in one sitting called The Waymark Method. As you enter the hypnagogic window, you notice the specific sensation of the threshold, the heaviness, the drift, the loosening grip of linear thought.

Practice sustaining your attention there without forcing yourself back awake or letting yourself fall through. Then, plant one clear marker, a phrase, an image, a single intention ~ Your Waymark. It’s not a trigger in the behaviorist sense, think of it more like leaving a flag on the trail so you can find your way back to the same clarity later, awake or dreaming.

For Example:

“Creativity flows to me effortlessly, and as I sleep tonight the inspiration I need to finish my song will come to me”

Done consistently, two things occur.

1. You train your subconscious to organize thoughts, emotions and events around what you actually want instead of whatever noise won the day.

2. You build a bridge you can use in both directions, sharper focus when you’re awake, more useful dreams when you’re asleep.

Why Creators Love This Technique

This isn’t a relaxation technique. If your goal is to feel calmer for twenty minutes, there are more effective ways to achieve that. This is for people who are already moving fast, entrepreneurs, founders, creators; anyone whose mind doesn’t turn off and who’s tired of fighting it instead of using it.

You don’t need to meditate for an hour a day to tap into this power (we recommend longer meditation for other benefits). You need ninety seconds you’re already spending anyway, directed on purpose instead of by accident.

Cultivating this connection is one of the most powerful ways a creator, artist, performer and entrepreneur can tap into their superconscious states, remove blocks, and truly become limitless.

Innovating A New Path Through The 3 Realms of Lucidity

Lucid Meditation® was established in 2005 by Lucas River Widdes after his long search for meditation that worked with “his type of brain”. Over 2 decades he learned countless practices in meditation, hypnosis (multiple certifications and over 15 methods later) , mindfulness, yoga (Krya Yoga initiate), breath work, and spirituality. While many have contributed to his philosophies and methods today, there was a gap he knew he needed to help bridge.

Techniques that people could do anywhere, no matter their experience, even if they only had 90 seconds. His background as a professional musician with a performance degree, and his success a s a#1 bestselling author influenced his desire to focus on helping other creative entrepreneurs to achieve success and peak performance through their practice.

The hypnagogic state is not something widely discussed and is not currently mainstream ~ although it is acknowledged throughout history. As one of the main pillars of the Lucid Meditation® philosophy and practice, our prediction is it will catch on quickly moving into 2027 and beyond.
